Severn Valley Railway: Kidderminster to Bridgnorth, April 2006:
The SVR is a 16 mile long railway running along the Severn River between Kidderminster in Worcestershire and Bridgnorth in Shropshire. It features historical steam and diesell trains operated by railway enthusiasts.
The Kidderminster station is only a short walk from the national rail Kidderminster stop and features a small museum, a coffeeshop and gift shop. On our trip we stopped at Bridgnorth and Arley.
Bridgnorth, the end point of our trip, is a market style
town divided into high and low towns with fantastic
historic tudor buildings and precarious castle ruins.
There are also many shallow caves carved in the
hill in low town with some being part of a siege action by
the Roundheads from the English Civil War. The castle was
blown up by the Roundheads to prevent it from being used
again after the Royalist forces surrendered .
Arley, an intermediate stop, is a scenic village with an arboretum and a well preserved country style train station. It also has a great view of the SVR steam trains crossing the Severn River on the Victoria Bridge.
Warwick Castle, June 2006:
Warwick Castle, is a well preserved Mediaeval castle with a history that goes back for more than 1000 years. It is a major tourist attraction in the West Midlands featuring shows such as the Birds of Prey Experience, Trebuchet demonstrations, jousting and feasts.
